Treating Opioid Withdrawal No Longer Needs Insurance Approval

Waiting for the insurance company to approve the medicine your doctor prescribed you is not only annoying, but can be life-threatening.  Imagine being one of the thousands trying to cope with opioid addiction while waiting for a prescription drug to make withdrawal easier for your body to handle...

Effective March 2017 Aetna Insurance Company will join Anthem and Cigna in removing their pre-authorization requirement for medications used to treat opioid addiction. This means once a doctor prescribes a medication like Suboxone, which helps reduce withdrawal symptoms, patients can get it and have it covered by insurance immediately.  Proponents applaud this change, glad  that patients will no longer face the consequences of waiting hours or days for approval.
